Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the brazing strength by providing an emboss section at the tip of a metal supporter, attaching this emboss section to a cathode cylinder with a filler metal enclosed in it, and applying a laser beam from outside to melt the filler metal and braze them together. CONSTITUTION:A porous tungsten electron emission layer a is supported by a molybdenum sleeve b to form a cathode cylinder 1. Meanwhile, a emboss section is provided at the tip 4 of a metal supporter 20 made of a heat-resisting metal, e.g., tantalum, niobium, or molybdenum, and a mud-like filler metal made by kneading a molybdenum-ruthenium filler metal and binder together is enclosed in the emboss section 4. After the emboss section 4 is lghtly and tentatively welded to the side of the cathode cylinder 1 by a resistance welding method, a laser beam 6 is applied within an atmosphere of an inactive gas, e.g., nitrogen, argon, etc., to melt the filler metal and braze the cathode cylinder 1 and the metal supporter 20 together. Accordingly, the brazing strength is improved, and flaking troubles are diminished.
