Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect a recording track, by forwarding and reversing the position of recording beginning end by a longer distance than a positioning error radially to a recording medium for a recording and reproducing head, in a recording/ reproducer using a disc shape recording medium.

CONSTITUTION: For example, a disc shape recording medium 1 using a photo sensing member of an optical recorder/reproducer is loaded on a turn table 2, and turns around a spindle 4 of a disc motor 5. A recording beginning end detecting terminal 10 drives a carryig motor 9 at a position detecting a mark 11 of the recording beginning end to set an optical system unit 6 to the position of the recording beginning end. When a discrimination instructing signal is inputted to a reset instruction pulse forming circuit 100, disc discriminating circuits 20W22 are reset and the unit 6 is forwarded and reversed by a distance longer than the positioning error for the recording beginning end via a forward instruction forming timer 101 and a reversing instruction forming timer 102. When the recording track is detected, an FF22 is set via an envelope detection circuit 20 to discriminate the disc as a recorded disc.
