Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an aq. dispersion which has a specified molecular weight distribution, gives a film having excellent gloss and transmission properties, and does not cause any problems on working atmosphere, by copolymerizing ethylene and a (partially) neutralized α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: An aq. dispersion is obtd. by dispersing in water an ethylene/ α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer which consists of 95W55wt% ethylene and 5W45wt% α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid in which at least 10mol% of the acid radical is neutralized and has a molecular weight distribution such that the total weight fraction of a polymer having an MW of 500W5,000 (in terms of PS) is 0.4W0.8 and the total weight fraction of a polymer having an MW of 10,000 or higher is at least 0.1. Further, an aq. dispersion consisting of this copolymer and an aliph. glycol or a derivative having the formulaI(wherein R is ethyl, ethoxyethyl; X and Y are each a group fo formula II or III; n is 0W5) is provided. When a metal such as Al is deposited on the surface of a film obtd. from the above aq. dispersion, there can be obtd. an inexpensive metallized paper having excellent gloss and moistureproofness.
