Abstract
PURPOSE:To monitor weld zones under safe environment without receiving the influence of heat and high frequency noise by using an image fiber consisting of quartz fibers as an information transmitting means for the weld zones. CONSTITUTION:The position to be monitored for welding of the seam of a steel strip formed to a tubular shape is the V point 2 at the root of the seam. There is usually >=10m from the welding site to a control room, and an image fiber 3 consisting of quartz fibers is also required to >=10m length. On the leading end side thereof, an image pickup adapter part 4 is fixed to a stanchion 5 by means of an oscillating mechanism 6, and is directed to the point 2. The objective lens provided to the leading end of the fiber 3 in the part 4 is focused with a screw 7 and the detected sharp image is transmitted with the fiber 3 up to the control chamber. Here, the transmitted information is put into a television camera 9 via an image receiving adapter 8, and is monitored with a monitor television 10. Or the temp. distribution is displayed in a monitor 11. A quartz cap 12 for the purpose of protecting the adapter part 4 against dust and high temp. is mounted to said part.
