Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a filter medium for a high-performance air filter having a high dust collecting capacity per nominal opening area and a long useful life by forming creases on the surface of a fibrous laminate consisiting of combustible synthetic resin having fiber diameter in a specified range.
CONSTITUTION: Creases are formed on one or both sides of the fibrous laminate consisting mainly of extra fine combustible synthetic resin having fiber diameter of 0.1W2 microns. Since the actual area per nominal opening area is increased by the creases, the dust collecting capacity of the filter is increased and the useful life thereof is prolonged considerably. In addtion, the laminate has a porosity in the range of 75W95%, and must have an initial resistance to gas permeation of not higher than 30mmH2O (air velocity 30cm/min). Further, the integration of the laminate and the adjustment of the porosity can be carried out by pressing the laminate at a pressure of 0.5W5kg/cm2 under heating to a temperature of 100W180°C.
