Abstract

PURPOSE: To resolve the optically active form of the titled compound useful as an optical resolving agent easily in high purity and yield, by converting 1-(1- naphthyl)ethylamine into a salt of cis-1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, and optically resolving the resultant salt.
CONSTITUTION: One mole of (±)-1-(1-naphthyl)-ethylamine (hereafter referred to as 1-NEA) is linked with one mole cis-1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid (hereafter referred to as CHDCA) to give a salt. A crystal of CHDCA salt of either one of the optically active 1-NEA is seeded in the supersaturated solution of the resultant salt to crystallize separate the same kind of the optically active form preferentially. The resultant crystals are resolved if necessary in the presence of an alkali to give optically pure 1-NEA. The alkali metallic salt of the CHDCA can be easily recovered for reuse.
