Abstract

PURPOSE:To estimate coke strength with good accuracy by measuring the porosities of coke and the microstrength value indicating the strength of porous walls. CONSTITUTION:Compounded coal is charged into a 250kg electric furnace having, for example, 450mm. furnace width, and is carbonized for 24hr at 1140 deg.C, whereby coke is produced. Thereafter, the coke is sampled from the difinite places of temp. measuring positions, and is subjected to measurement by the drum test specified in JISK2151. The coke lumps are divided to 10 parts from the wall side down into the coal in the furnace width direction, and the porosities and microstrength values are measured with respect to the respective divided parts. If the coke strength is calculated by the estimation equation by using the microstrength values at which the porosities by the weighted mean are indicated by 65 meshes sieves, it coincides roughly with the results of JIS. By this measurement, the microstrength value indicated by the sieves finer than 60 meshes is judged to be suited for the evaluation of the substrate strength.
