Abstract
PURPOSE:To suppress the influence of metallic vapor and sputters or electrical noises in a device of detecting the line to be welded, by using the X-rays generated when electron beams collide against the work. CONSTITUTION:The electron beam 8 from an electron gun 1 is focused by a focusing coil 3 onto the work 6; at the same time, it scans on the scanning line B crossing the line 7 to be welded of the work by a deflection coil 4 driven by the deflection current from a signal generator 15. When the electron beam collides against the work, X-rays 25 are generated. The intensity thereof is smallest when the collision position is on the weld line 7 because the beam penetrates deeply into the joint and the X-rays are shielded by the work. The quantity of the X-rays is sufficiently large and can be detected with a photodiode 26 or the like coated with metal. If this is displayed with an oscilloscope 18, the position of the weld line is discriminated from the position at the min. point thereof.
