Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The pyrazole derivative of formulaI(X is halogen or 1W4C lower alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 1,3-Dimethyl-4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetyl)-5-hydroxypyrazole.
USE: Herbicide harmless to transplanted or directly planted paddy rice plant, capable of effectively controlling the hardly controllable perennial weeds such as arrowhead, flatstage, bulrush, etc., and also effective to annual monocotyledonous weeds such as monochoria, unbrella plant, etc. and broad-leaved weeds such as false pimpernel, toothcup, etc.
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIcan be prepared, e.g. by reacting the phenoxyacetyl halide of formula II (Hal is halogen) with 1,3-dimethyl-5-pyrazolone in a solvent such as diethyl ether, in the presence of a catalyst such as calcium hydroxide, at a temperature between room temperature and the refluxing point of the solvent.
