Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a means of switching the using condition to any of multi- stages by providing on a seat of a car or an airplane and the like a link mechanism for horizontally moving a footrest, and a multiple-stage positioning mechanism together with its operative mechanism for releasing the positioning mechanism. CONSTITUTION:When a footrest 2 is pulled out of its storage position under a seat 1 and next it is raised, a cam 21 engaged with a roller 2 and a rack 18 engages with a ratchet 19 at the stepped portion 21a to set a forward inclined position of the footrest 2. Further-rising of the footrest 2 have its attitude move inclined at a stepped portion 21b. Between this inclined position and the top horizontal position, the footrest 2 can be set at each position of a plurality of stages and changed by a small step of angle. The number of changable stages is determined according to the teeth number of the rack 18 to engage with the ratchet 19 after they are engaged at the stepped portion 21b. In order to tilt its attitude downwardly from its horizontal position to change its using conditon operation of a handle 25 released engagement of the rack 18 and the ratchet 19, allowing it to descend by its own dead weight.
