Abstract

PURPOSE:To offer automatic answering telephone service without subjecting a boad to a subscriber at the economical point of view, by providing an exchange with a registering means of registering and releasing automatic answering telephone service and a voice storage and reproduction processor. CONSTITUTION:When a special exclusively-used number that requests the start of automatic answering telephone service is sent from a telephone set 21-i through which the automatic answering telephone service is allowed to be offered, the central processor 28 of a voice storage and reproduction processor 27 guides the telephone set 21-i for a registration procedure. A message by the automatic answering service from the telephone set 21-i is stored in a mass- storage file memory 30 under the control of the processor 28. Later, when an incoming call arrives at the telephone set 21-i, the processor 28 sends the message stored in the memory 30 to an originating subscriber and also stores a message from th originating subscriber in the memory 30. When a special exclusively-used number that requests the reproduction of the message from the telephone set 21-i is sent, the processor 28 reads the message, when it is stored, out of the memory and then sents it to the telephone set 21-i and erases the transmitted message from the memory 30.
