Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a variable resistance circuit of simple constitution, by using a light emitting element, whose quantity of emitted light varies with an electric signal, and a photodetecting element, having a resistance value variable with the intensity of photodetected light, in combination for remote control over the sound volume of, e.g. a TV receiver. CONSTITUTION:Through the manual operation of the operating circuit 4 of a remote operating device 3, a control signal generating circuit 5 emits a signal of light, an ultrasonic wave, etc., to the control signal receiving circuit 6 of a TV receiver 1. The signal received by the circuit 6 is supplied to a processor 7. An acoustic signal generating circuit 8 is controlled by the processor 7 and its output is supplied to a cadmium sulfide element 12 as the photodetecting element of a variable resistance circuit 11. The processor 7 decodes the control signal of the device 3 to energize the light emitting diode 18 of the circuit at a duty ratio which corresponds to sound volume. As the intensity of photodetected light increases, the resistance value of the element 12 decreases and the resistance value of a resistance 13 is so set than when the diode 18 is turned off, a sound from a speaker 2 is small enough not to hear.
