Abstract
PURPOSE: To form a crumb from a rubber-like polymer well, carry out the subsequent dehydrating and drying steps stably and efficiently and recover the polymer, by stripping a solution or suspension of the rubber-like polymer in the presence of specific dispersing agents with steam.
CONSTITUTION: A solution or suspension of a rubber-like polymer, e.g. polybutadiene, polymerized by using an anionic polumerization catalyst, in an inert solvent, e.g. n-hexane, is mixed with (A) a polyethylene oxide-propylene oxide block copolymer with an ethylene oxide content in the molecule of 15W70wt% having a molecular weight of 1,000W8,000, and (B) a water-soluble high polymer (water- soluble salt) containing carboxyl groups, e.g. Na salt of maleic acid anhydride- isobutylene copolymer as dispersing agents, and the resultant mixture is then stripped with steam (S-S). The amounts of the components (A) and (B) are preferably 100W500ppm and 0.2W20ppm based on the slurry after the S-S respectively.
