Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve an almost limitless short charge storage time, by providing the 2nd transfer gate and overflow drain specifically with a solidstate image sensor. CONSTITUTION:A solidstate image sensor 11 is provided with the 2nd transfer gates (TG)TG2.1-TG2.n which transfer the charge produced at photo detection elements a1.1-am.n and overflow drains OD1-ODn which receive charges only stored for a given amount or more at the element at the closing and prevent the storage of charge to the element through the reception of charges produced to the element at opening. Inversion is made from the closing of TG1.1-TG1.n of the 1st TG and from the opening of the 2nd TG to the closing of it, and the 1st TG is inverted to the open from the time point.
