Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect damage position easily at a high accuracy by measuring impedance variation between the pipe body and electrodes arranged parallel thereto in the damage to the paint coat with a timedomain reflectmeter. CONSTITUTION:When a damage P exists on a paint coat of a pipe body 1 provided under water or ground, a current (i) flows between the pipe body 1 and the electrodes 15 arranged parallel thereto through water or soil. The current thus flowing is generally determined by the size of the damage or the resistance factor of water of soil. When the pipe body and the electrodes form a transmission circuit, the impedance changes. Entailing the change in the impedance, a reflected pulse is generated in the direction opposite to the advancing of the pulse to be applied from the end. The change in time of the pulse is measured with a timedomain reflectmeter (TDR) to detect damage position on the paint coat.
