Abstract

PURPOSE:To exercise adequate level control by finding a ratio of audio signals with a mean level and those exceeding the mean level. CONSTITUTION:An audio signal inputted to a terminal 11 is led to an output terminal 13 via a losser 12 and also supplied to a level detecting circuit 14. The level detecting circut 14 detects the mean value of an audio signal digitally and its output is supplied to a microcomputer 15. The microcomputer 15 discriminates between a voice and music (discrimination between a pulsating signal and continuous one) on the basis of the output signal of the level detecting circuit 14, and corrects the detected level according to the discrimination result. When this corrected signal goes beyond a prescribed blind sector range, it is supplied to a level control interface part at the control timing of a timing detecting circuit 16 to be converted into an analog DC signal, which is supplied to the losser 12.
