Abstract
PURPOSE:To save man-power for maintenance and inspection and to make the system highly reliable, by monitoring a failure in a light emitting element at a field of a plant at a central control room. CONSTITUTION:A controller 11 of a central control room and a terminal device 21 of a field of a plant are connected with optical fibers 41a and 41b. At the transmission from the device 21 to the device 11, an output light of a light emitting element 51 is received at a photodetector 54a through a coupler 43a, and the output of photodetection is monitored at a switching circuit 71. If the element 51 is in failure, the switching circuit 71 drives a light emitting element 52 in an oscillated wave length lambda2. The optical signal in the wave length lambda2 is transmitted to the device 11, and outputted at a fiber 41k at a brancher 44 and received at a photodetector 54c. This detection signal is given to a controller 12, the switching of a reproduced output is detected at a diagnosis display circuit 72, and a terminal device number is displayed.
