Abstract

PURPOSE: A heat-accumulating agent, in which calcium chloride is prevented from supercooling by the addition of strontium acetate in an amt. above its solubility to the calcium chloride heat-accumulating agent.
CONSTITUTION: Strontium acetate[Sr(CH3COO)2.1/2H2O]in an amt. above its solubility is added to a calcium chloride heat-accumulating agent. The strontium acetate is present as a solid in the molten calcium chloride, and upon cooling to a temp. ≤m.p. of the calcium chloride, the calcium chloride begins to crystallize including the solid strontium acetate as a nucleus, which prevents supercooling. The calcium chloride crystallizes through the steps of nucleus formation and crystal growth, while the supercooling is caused without the step of nucleus formation. A strontium crystal services as a nucleus in place of a crystaline nucleus of calcium chloride.
