Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a heat accumulating material prevented from being supercooled, by adding as a nucleator a specified strontium compound or barium compound to calcium bromide hexahydrate.
CONSTITUTION: One or more compounds selected from among hydrated strontium chloride, hydrated strontium bromide, barium fluoride, barium chloride, barium phosphate, barium carbonate, barium sulfide, strontium surfate and strontium nitrate as a nucleator for preventing supercooling are added to calcium bromide hexahydrate. When said nucleator is added in an amount exceeding its solubility to calcium bromide hexahydrate, the nucleator present in the solid form serves as a nucleus when CaBr2.6H2O, crystallizes, and therefore the crystallization of CaBr2.6H2O is initiated. Optionally, a thickening agent, etc. may be added to improve the dispersion of the nucleator. As a thickening agent, a high molecular material capable of being dissolved in the heat accumulating material, such as carboxylmethycellulose, can be used.
