Abstract

PURPOSE: To form incinerated ash into a caked product at a low cost, while inhibiting generation of secondary pollution, by mixing the incinerated ash with various cement- hardening agents, forming the mixture into a compressed body, and then setting and hardening the compressed body with use of an exhaust heat from a sludge incinerator.

CONSTITUTION: Incinerated ash, cement-hardening agents and water are fed into a mixer 14 and mixed. The mixture is transferred to a mixture-storing hopper 16. The mixture is fed from the hopper 16 to a compression-forming means 18. The resultant compressed body is put on a rack 19 and carried to a curing chamber 20. In the curing chamber 20, raw steam is fed to the mixture. The raw steam is also introduced into a mixture-storing silo 23 through a heat-exchange pipe to keep the mixture warm. Thus, setting and hardening are accelerated. A steam source is obtained by locating the heat- exchange pipe 24 inside an incinerated ash-cooler 2, and feeding water through a conduit 26 with a plunger pump 25 to form saturated steam with the heat-exchange pipe 24. The heat source is fed to the curing chamber 20 and the mixture-storing silo 23 through conduits 27, 28.
