Abstract

PURPOSE: Combustible parts in the raw garbage are decomposed by fermentation and the residue is utilized as a feed for earthworms, thus permitting the reuse of raw garbage.
CONSTITUTION: Combustible parts in the raw garbage are made into pieces with a crusher and decomposed by fermentation in an open-type fermentation tank. After fermentation, the residue is spread on the bed in which earthworms are to be cultivated. Then, sawdust is added to dehydrate the residue, the pH is adjusted and earthworms are stocked at a rate of some 20,000W30,000/m2 bed. The castings of earthworms are collected and used as a manure.
