Abstract
PURPOSE:To simplify the valve-operating mechanisms and to improve the thermal efficiency of a four-cycle internal combustion engine by forming two not completely partitioned pseudocombustion chambers to the left and right of the center of the engine with a cylinder head and a piston of conical cross section when a compression stroke is completed. CONSTITUTION:an intake valve 2 and exhaust valve 3 are arranged on the center line of an engine, intake and exhaust are accomplished in the form of an S- shaped stream from an intake manifold 5 to exhaust manifold 6, and the piston 4 with a conical cross section and the cylinder head 7 where two spark plugs can be disposed to the right and left of the center of the engine form the combu stion chamber into not completely partitioned twin pseudocombustion chambers A to the right and left of the center of the engine when a compression stroke is completed. This enables a construction in which an intake valve 2 and exhaust valve 3 can be directly operated by a single cam shaft 10, thus so much simplifying the valve-operating mechanism. since the twin combustion chambers A are of the same geometry, this provides a better combustion efficiency than any presently used combustion chambers.
