Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a windshield for a car with superior strength by heating and bending a glass plate and rapidly cooling the bent plate from a high temp.
CONSTITUTION: A glass plate 9 is mounted on a dry sand mold 8 for bending, and the mold 8 is set on a carriage 7 and introduced into the heating section 2 of a furnace 100 through a conveying path 6. The plate 9 is heated to a prescribed working temp., the softened plate 9 droops owing to the empty weight, and the underside is bent to the desired shape along the curved surface of the mold 8. The plate 9 on the mold 8 enters the bending section 4, where the surface is worked to a prescribed curved surface by pressurization with a mold 11 for downward molding, and the plate 9 is attracted to the mold 11 by suction through many small holes bored in the mold 11 and a connecting pipe 11A connected to a vacuum device. In this state the plate 9 is moved to a rapidly cooling device 200, and by spraying cooling air from air feeding heads 15, 15, the molded glass plate 9 is rapidly cooled to increase the strength.
