Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a polarity controller superior in dispersion stability, polarity stability, image quality, etc., by using a specified hydroxybenzoic acid derivative. CONSTITUTION:A compound represented by the general formula of its alkali, alkaline earth metal, aluminum, manganese, or cobalt salt is added to a developer as a polarity controller. In the formula, R1 is alkyl, and R2 is H or dialkylaminomethyl. The polarity controller is used in general in an amount of 0.01- 20wt% based on a pigment. A dispersion medium usable for the polarity controller is a polar solvent, such as water or alcohol, or a nonaueous solvent, such as aliphatic, alicyclic, or aromatic hydrocarbon.
