Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a tail end position of a wire rod more quickly than a conventional method, by placing a pulse generator installed to a driving motor, an operating device for deriving a linear velocity by a pulse, a hot lump detector for detecting the tail end of the wire rod, etc., at prescribed places. CONSTITUTION:This device is constituted by providing a pulse generator 16 and a pulse generator 15, on a driving motor 12 for the final stand 3 of a wire rod finishing rolling mill, and a driving motor 11 for a pinch roll 2 on the lower flow of the rolling mill 3, respectively, and placing linear velocity operating circuits 17, 18 for deriving a linear velocity by a pulse detected at each position, an operating circuit 19 for detecting a tail end position of a wire rod by both a signal of a hot lump detector 14 provided on the upper flow of the rolling mill 3, and signals from said operating circuits 17, 18, and others so that the tail end position of the wire rod of the delivery of the rolling mill can be derived equivalently, before the tail end of the wire rod passes through the rolling mill 3, that is, when it has reached a point P2. In this way, the detection can be executed more quickly than a conventional method by a distance portion between a point P1 and the point P2.
