Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the recesses of small shapes produced on the side wall of a tire for automobiles during production by means of two position sensors of which one is fixed and the other is of sliding type. CONSTITUTION:Ruggedness occuring in materials or production stages is produced on the side wall of a tire T for automobiles. Particularly with a radial tire, small ruggedness is produced on account of the nonuniformity of ply cords. One position sensor 22 is supported by means of an L type arm 10 to a detector 9 by fixing its sensing part in a prescribed position in such a way as not to move and the other position sensor 21 is fitted in such a way that its sensing part is made freely slidable in vertical directions. When there is a recess on the side wall of the tire, a difference in height is produced between the stationary side sensor 22 and the extension side sensor 21 and therefore the detector 9 produces an output. If the space between both sensors is narrowed, small recesses are detected with good accuracy.
