Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize enhancement of the liquid-leakage resistance of a button-type battery by using a shape memorizing alloy with a given transformation temperature as at least one of a positive and a negative can, and crimping the former alloy. CONSTITUTION:A negative can 5 is made of a shape memorizing alloy which has a transformation temperature of 30-65 deg.C, and it is prepard by working the alloy in a state without any martensite phase into a final crimped state (a). The negative can 5 in the state (a) is cooled rapidly into beta state with a martensite phase, before it is worked into a state (b) with a small opening which is used as a case. A possitive pellet 2, a separtor 2, a negative mixture 4 and a gasket 6 are placed in a positive can 1, and the positive can 1 is crimped. After that, the battery is heated up to the inverse transformation temperature of the alloy, thereby the gasket 6 being made tight from inside and outside. By the means mentioned above, crimping which is stronger than any one obtainable by a conventional method can be realized, and the liquid-leakage resistance of the battery can be greatly enhanced.
