Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:The thiazolylazo-alkylaminobenzoic acid of formulaI(R1 is thiazole ring or benzothiazole ring; R2 is H or 2W3C alkyl; R3 is 2W3C alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 2-(2-Thiazolylazo)-5-diethylaminobenzoic acid.
USE: Since the compound reacts selectively with specific metallic ions and forms a metal chelate compound having high molar absorptivity, it is useful especially for the selective separation and concentration of specific metallic ion or as a reagent for quantitative analysis of the ion by absorptiometry. It exhibits sensitive color reaction exclusively to Co, Ni, Cu, etc. among the elements in the periodic table, and forms a chelate having blue or violet color.
PROCESS: The amino compound of formula II is diazotized and coupled with the m-alkylaminobenzoic acid of formula III to obtain the compound of formulaI.
