Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable printing even in the speed adjusting area of a carriage and improve the average printing speed by generating a printing timing signal allowed for the shifting speed of the carriage carrying a printing head. CONSTITUTION:As compared to the conventional printer, a displacement-speed detection circuit 4 is added and a speed signal is provided to a printing timing generation circuit 5 from the circuit 4. The circuit 4 measures the time interval of displacement signals provided from the displacement detection circuit 3 by counting clock pulses and outputs a reciprocal thereof as speed signal. The printing timing generation circuit 5 determines the time of generating printing timing pulses based on the position signal of a carriage 2 obtained from the displacemet detection circuit 3, the speed signal obtained from the displacement-speed conversion circuit 4 and the flying time of the dot wire of the printing head 6 and outputs a printing timing signal to drive the print head 6.
