PURPOSE:To enhance decorative effect and commercial value by a method wherein the entire outside surface of a metallic case of a cigarette lighter is plated, a water-soluble masking material is applied to the plated surface, and after a coating material is sprayed thereon, the masking material is removed and a transparent coating material is coated. CONSTITUTION:After subjecting the entire outside surface of a brass-made main body 1 of the lighter armor case to chromium plating 2, a water-soluble resin masking material 3 is applied to the plated surface 2 to produce lines, patterns or the like, followed by spray coating 4 to provide a pattern or the like. Then, the masking material 3 is removed by washing with water, and a transparent acrylic coating material 5 is coated. Accordingly, the decorative property and the commercial value can be enhanced.
