Abstract

PURPOSE: A waste solution containing calcium chloride, which is formed as a by- product in the production of chloropicrin used as a soil disinfectant, is combined with sodium hydroxide to form calcium hydroxide and sodium chloride, both of which are recovered, thus effecting economical recovery of calcium chloride.
CONSTITUTION: After chloropicrin is produced by chlorinating calcium picrate with calcium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide is added to the waste solution by 1.5W2.6mol per 1mol of calcium chloride in the waste solution. Thus, calcium hydroxide and sodium chloride are formed and they are separated into the precipitate and the supernatant by standing the reaction mixture. When the reaction mixture is stood, a high molecular coagulant of polyacrylamide is added, if necessary. The calcium hydroxide recovered is cnlorinated into calcium hypochlorite and the sodium chloride is used as a raw material in electrolysis.
