Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce a thin alloy strip having superior abrasion resistance suited for a material of rotary magnetic type heads by ejecting the melt of an Fe-Si-Al alloy subjected to oxidation partially by O2 onto revolving rolls, and cooling and solidifying the same. CONSTITUTION:In a vessel 1 consisting of a quartz tube, an Fe-Si-Al alloy is melted by melted by a heating oil 7 in a gaseous Ar atmosphere to make an alloy melt 2. Pressure is applied into this vessel 1 by gaseous Ar to eject the melt 2 through the nozzle ejection port in the bottom part of the vessel 1. Gas blowing nozzles 4 are provided near the nozzle ejection port and gaseous O25 is kept ejected therefrom. The melt 2 is partially oxidized by the O2 and while contg. The oxide, it is conducted into the clearance of a pair of rolls 6 revolving in opposite directions, by which it is cooled and solidified, and a thin alloy strip 3 is obtained. The product similar to that obtained by the above-mentioned method is obtained by blowing O2 to the alloy melt 2 in the vessel to form oxide in place of blowing O2 then conducting the melt from the nozzle directly to the rolls 6.
