Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce operation temperature by making the spiral or ribbon- shaped porous metallic member of an impregnation type cathode to consist of a metallic fiber which is composed of very fine metallic wire of a high melting point or a combination of the metallic fiber and high melting point metallic powder. CONSTITUTION:A combination of tungusten powder with approximately 5mu and metallic fiber consisting of tungusten wire with approximately 7mu diameter is compressed and molded. Then a wire or ribbon whose surface is coated with copper by a combination of sintering, swaging, and rolling is obtained. Besides, this wire is wound round the groove 1 of a jig 3, and a spiral or direct heat heater type porous metallic member 2 is obtained by processing the ribbon in the direct heater molding and sintering it. Subsequently, an impregnation type cathode is completed by impregnating the empty hole of porous tungusten with electron emissive material. As a result, operation temperature can be reduced as compared with the conventional one.
