Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a roll which lessens the accumulation of materials stuck on the roll surface, withstands long-term use and is economical by applying a sulfonitriding treatment of the surface of a conveying roll in a treating furnace for steel plates or the like, thereby improving galling resistance and seizure resistance.
CONSTITUTION: A conveying roll is immersed for about 5W6hr in a rhodanate bath of about 500°C, whereby the compound of sulfide and nitride of about 5W 50μ thicknesses is formed on the surface thereof. If the roll applied with such sulfonitriding treatment on the surface is used for treating and heating furnaces such as normalizing, annealing and reducing, the accumulation of iron oxides and other stuck materials on the roll surface is prevented, and the scratching, denting, etc. of the steel plate can be completely eliminated, and therefore the quality and yield of the steel plate are improved. At the same time, the maintenance of the roll is made easy, the need for water cooling, etc., is eliminated and this is economically advantageous.
