Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover SO2 in combustion waste gas as solids by separating the SO2 by adsorption on an adsorbent, adding a gaseous reducing agent, and causing reduction in the presence of catalyst and the Claus reaction.
CONSTITUTION: Waste gas contg. SO2 is passed through a packed chamber 1 packed with an adsorbent such as activated carbon in an adsorption zone 2 to allow the SO2 to be adsorbed on the adsorbent. The chamber 1 is moved to a desorption zone 3, where the SO2 is desorbed with a desorbing gas almost free from oxygen, and the desorbed SO2 is cooled with a cooler 5 and fed to a reduction reactor 18 together with gaseous H2 21 as a reducing gas.
