Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Aqueous extract component B-I of oyster shell. Having immune enhancing action; easily soluble in water; not passing through cellulose dialysis membrane; being eluted near ferritin in column chromatography using Sepharose 4B; color reaction; positive in phenol-sulfuric acid reaction, and negative in Liebermann-burchard reaction or ferric chloride reaction; exhibiting maximums near at 3,370, 2,910, and 1,635cm-1 in infrared absorption sepctrum, but not exhibiting maximum in ultraviolet light absorption spectrum.
USE: An immune enhancer. An enhancer for infection resistance, and improver for infirm constitution. Low toxic.
PROCESS: 1kg oyster shell (e.g., ostrea gigas Thunb, Osterea, etc.) is extracted usually with 2W20l water, the extracted solution is concentrated, an organic solvent (acetone, ethanol, etc.) is added to the concentrated solution to give a precipitate, which is dissolved in water, dialyzed, and the inner solution is dried, to give the desired substance. When this component B-I is orally medicated as an immune enhancer, a dose of about 5W100mg/day is preferable.
