Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the content of bilirubin by a method wherein a blood is placed in one chamber of a vessel with two chambers divided by a membrane adapted to permeate material of low molecular weight and the absorptivity of the plasma components of the blood permeated into the other chamber under pressure is measured. CONSTITUTION:A measuring device unit has a upper chamber 2 and a lower chamber 3 divided with a membrane 1 adapted to permeate only material of relatively low molecular weight (e.g. less than 10.000). The upper chamber 2 and the lower chamber 3 are clamped with a clamper 6 by pinching the membrane 1 and a screen 4 with a packing 5. Blood is stored in the upper chamber 2 which is connected to a pressure pipeng 8 with a connector 7. As blood in the upper chamber 2 is pressurized, the plasma components in the blood permeates the membrane 1 and enters the lower chamber 3, to which a light transmitting capillary tube 9 is connected. Here, the absorptivity of the plasma components is measured to determine the content of bilirubin. This apparatus enables accurate measrement of bilirubin without use of any centrifugal separator while minimizing the troubles.
