Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a connector of high performance which is particularly low in propagation loss, and has good adhesiveness between a molding resin and a fiber by forming a polysilsesquioxane layer on the glass surface of the leading end part of a glass fiber removed of a polymer for coating. CONSTITUTION:A soln. ( P-A soln. ) of the polysilsesquioxane expressed by (R1SiO1.5)n of polymer of R1Si (OR2)3 wherein R1 is CH3, C2H5, vinyl, etc., R2 is H, CH3, C2H5 is prepd. The part removed of the silicone resin 2' and resin coating 2 of ''Teflon '' or polyamide on a glass fiber by immersing or washing the leading end part of the fiber into respective solvents is immersed in said P-A soln., after which it is heat-treated for 10min at 80 deg.C, thence for 30min at 250 deg.C, whereby a surface-treated layer 5 is formed. A protecting stainless steel pipe 4 is applied on this treated fiber 1 and further an epoxy resin molding material 3 is used to form a connector, the leading end whereof is polished. In this way, the connector of low losses of light propagation, high resolution and high reliability is obtained.
