Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a metal oxide complex composed mainly of oxides of Ce, Bi and Co, and capable of separating high purity oxygen from an oxygen-containing gas.
CONSTITUTION: Oxides of Ce, Bi and Co, e.g. CeO2, Bi2O3 and Co(OAc)24H2O, ar crushed, mixed together, calcined in air, and crushed again. The powder is compression molded and calcined in air to obtain a metal oxide complex. The number of Ce and Bi atoms in the complex is 0.3W15g-atom each per 1g-atom of Co. The complex has an electron conductivity of ≥1×10-2Ω-1cm-1 and an oxygen ion conductivity of ≥1×10-4Ω-1cm-1. When two airtight chambers are placed at both sides of a layer composed of the complex, and the oxygen partial pressure in one of the chamber is made higher than that in the other chamber, oxygen is separated to the chamber having lower oxygen partial pressure.
