Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect fault without decreasing the working ratio in a thermal head comprising a plurality of heating elements in a row, by a method wherein voltage value depending on voltage drop produced on a resistor is compared with reference voltage while a switch circuit is opened. CONSTITUTION:During inspection, a switch circuit 5 is opened according to command of CPU10 and voltage of + electrode of DC power source 3 is applied to a thermal head group 1 through a resistor 4. Transistors 21...2n are turned ON in sequence and the address information is detected. In a comparator 8, reference voltage produced by voltage division of the power source 3 at resistors 6 and 7 is compared with voltage depending on voltage drop value caused by current flowing through a resistor to the head 1. If any element 1 is broken, the voltage drop value decreases. This output enters through an output control unit 9 into the CPU10 and fault is indicated in an indicator 13 based upon the address information.
