Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the highly active hydrogenation catalyst containing no chromium by a method wherein an alkali is added to an aqueous solution containing copper ion and zinc ion and the obtained precipitate is subjected to firing and reducing treatments.
CONSTITUTION: As the hydrogenation catalyst used in preparing ethylene glycol by hydrogenating oxalic diester, one prepared by a method wherein an alkali is added to an aqueous solution containing copper ion and zinc ion to form a precipitate and, after the precipitate is fired in air, it is subjected to reduction treatment is used. Thus prepared copper-zinc type hydrogenation catalyst contains no chromium and generates reaction with good efficiency.
