Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate deterioration in an underground distribution line by measuring a DC potential between a conductor of a cable to be measured buried under ground a shield layer covering it through an insulation layer with a high impedance measuring device. CONSTITUTION:A connection lead of a DC potential measuring device 5 is connected to a conductor 2 of a cable 1 to be measured and a shield layer 4 to measure a DC potential generated by deterioration of an insulation layer 3. An equivalent circuit to indicate a deterioration cable 1 is parallel circuit of an insulation resistance Rx of the cable having a deteriorated part, a cable static capacity Cx and a generated potential E which can detect fine generated voltage when the input impedance of the measuring impedance Ro is set at 10<4>MOMEGA thereby enabling discrimination of any slight state of deterioration. In practice, to avoid induction disturbance, any deteriorated part can be detected with the the input impedance of 10MOMEGA at its minimum. As for deteriorated portions in presence of water, the value of the resistance Rx can be estimated by varying the impedance Ro.
