A reference voltage generator circuit 13 outputs the voltage V corresponding to the maximum speed that corresponds to the gear position and a compare circuit 14 issues an output O1 when the number of engine revolutions exceeds the maximum speed. An alarm is sounded after the time constant of the integrator circuit 7 by the actuation of an AND gate 18 except during the maximum gear position. As a result, the alarm at the high speed travel is controlled, the useless alarm during shift map is removed, and the burden of a driver is reduced.
