PURPOSE:To reliably separate paper by providing a separating plate positioned upstream a lower roller in the direction of paper feeding in such a manner as to form a predetermined space from an upper roller. CONSTITUTION:When plural paper sheets including the uppermost sheet 9 are about to be fed out by a paper feed roller 4, only the upper three sheets can be inserted into a space between a separating roller 5 and a separating plate 8, and the lowermost sheet is kept from advancing further by friction of the sheet with the separating plate 8. Accordingly, only the uppermost sheet 9 and the lower sheet can be fed between both separating rollers 5, 6, and as the lower sheet is kept from advancing further by the separating roller 6, only the uppermost sheet 9 can be fed out. Thus, sheets to be inserted into a space between the upper roller and the separating plate is controlled, and hereupon the previously separated sheets can be assuredly separated from each other by the upper and lower rollers.
