Abstract
PURPOSE:To aim at simplifying the mechanism of a spindle device having a diaphragm with high accuracy, by supplying air from the center of a spindle frame having a spindle journaled thereto so that a diaphragm chuck is opened or closed. CONSTITUTION:A spindle 2 is rotatably supported by a spindle frame 1, a diaphragm chuck 3 is attached to the front end portion of the spindle 2 and a piston rod 4 is slidably extended through the center of the spindle 2. The piston rod 4 carries at its front end a driving piston 16 for opening and closing the chuck. The drive of the piston 16 is carried out by high pressure air which is supplied from a fluid supply port 20 in the outer periphery of the frame through fluid passages 17a, 18 extended through the spindle and opposite to the seat surface of the driving piston and through a fluid passage 19 which is disposed between the frame and the spindle. The operation of the piston causes the diaphragm chuck to open or close.
