Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the titled dispersing agent having excellent dispersing effect, by using a copolymer composed of an alkali metal acrylate and acrylamide at a specific ratio and having a specific range of solution viscosity.
CONSTITUTION: 96W98pts.wt. of an alkali metal acrylate (e.g. lithium salt) and 4W2pts.wt. of acrylamide are dissolved in water and copolymerized in water in the presence of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator such as potassium persulfate, to obtain a dispersing agent for the pigment of coated paper. The viscosity of 40% aqueous solution of the copolymer is adjusted to 2W20 poise at 25°C.
EFFECT: It can be applied to a wide variety of pigments and gives a dispersion having high concentration, low viscosity and excellent stability, and free from viscosity increase with time.
USE: Art paper, coated paper, etc.
