Abstract

PURPOSE: To calcine a catalyst carrier molding without producing any cracks and crazes by heating the molding stepwise to elevate its temp. in conformity with the thermal decomposition temp. of the org. binders containd therein while flowing a gaseous atmosphere to the molding.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst carrier molding obtd. by kneading a carrier raw material, inorg. binders, org. binders and further, if necessary, a catalyst component and extrusion molding the mixture is calcined. While at this time a gaseous atmosphere is flowed, the molding is heated to elevate its temp. successively after waiting for the completion of the thermal decomposition at a constant temp. accompanying evolution of heat of the org. binders contained. Then, the local accumulation of heat in the molding is less, and the superior catalyst carrier molding having no calcining cracks and crazes is calcined.
