Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent liquid junction and construct a battery easily by arranging many unit cells each composed of a zinc electrode and a halogen electrode in a longitudinal direction and a lateral direction and connecting unit cells of the longitudinal direction in series and connecting two groups or more of these series-connected cells in parallel. CONSTITUTION:Many unit cells 1, each composed of a zinc electrode 3 and a halogen electrode (e.g., chllorine electrode) 4, are arranged in a longitudinal direction that is the direction of an electrode width and in a lateral direction that is the direction of an electrode thickness to make up a battery. The zinc electrode 3 and the chlorine electrode 4 of adjacent unit cells arranged in the longitudinal direction are connected in series through interelectrode conductors in order, and two groups or more of these series-connected unit cells are arranged and connected in parallel. In an example shown in the diagram, unit cells 1 are arranged in four rows longitudinally, and in three columns laterally. As a battery configuration, one group of six unit cells in the upper half and other group of six unit cells in the lower half, both connected in series respectively, are connected in parallel. Accordingly, liquid junction is prevented, a battery can be constructed easily, and the battery performance in mass production is improved.
