Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a large capacity battery with no liquid junction by using a number of unit electrode groups with many zinc electrodes planted on one side of a current collector and many chlorine electrodes planted on the other side. CONSTITUTION:A number of comb-shaped unit electrode groups, with many zinc electrodes 2' of, e.g., a small square pillar shape planted on one side of a current collector 1, and many chloride electrodes 3' of a similar shape planted on the other side, are combined together to constitute a battery so that a zinc electrode 2' and a chlorine electrode 3' are arranged at an electrode interval each other in a longitudinal direction and a lateral direction. Column-shaped electrodes may also be used. A chlorine resistant material, such as porous titanium or porous graphite, etc., is used for the current collector 1 and the electrodes. Electrodes are planted by optional processes, such as fitting or screwing, etc. Accordingly, an individual electrode is made small-sized, thus liquid junction is prevented and a compact, large capacity battery is obtained.
