Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of a zinc-bromine battery by using as a dendrite inhibitor for the battery, a specified mixture containing methyl(ethyl) alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A zinc-bromine battery is constituted by installing a zinc negative electrode and a positive electrode within an electrolyzer, with an ion exchange membrane interposed between the positive and the negative electrodes, and circulating a positive and a negative electrolyte in the positive and the negative electrodes sides. For the purpose of improving electric deposition of zinc, which is developed in the negative electrode during discharge, and preventing any generation of dendrite, a dendrite inhibitor is added to the electrolyte. As the above dendrite inhibitor, a mixture liquid prepared by mixing 20-49wt% water, 50wt% methyl (or ethyl) alcohol and 1-30wt% nonionic surfactant is used.
